Here are some pictures of Morgan each taken after she lost a tooth. The first one was the end of August last year. The second one was the end of February. That's six whole months! Do you have any idea how hard it is for a child to wait six months in between losing teeth?! Once they lose one tooth, they expect the rest to come out one right after another. I think Morgan spent at least an hour every day wiggling those teeth to try and find another loose one. And then once they really are loose, it takes more than a month to get them out. It's pure torture for a child!

The Joy of Losing Teeth
Note: I am hoping to be on a vacation for the next week, so I will be blog-less until I get back. :)

The newest lost tooth has caused me to reconsider our budget. Not just because the tooth fairy prices have seemed to inflate as fast as home prices (hopefully the price for teeth will level off with the price of homes!), but because we're going to be shelling out for the orthodontist too. You can see from the picture below (if you look closely), that behind the "hole" is already another half-grown tooth. The new tooth is supposed to grow in the hole, not behind the hole! This wouldn't be such a big problem except that we are less than three years away from the age at which they like to start with braces these days. Yep, they do that kind of thing when they are 9 or 10 now. Can you believe it? I didn't have braces until I was in 7th grade. Man how things have changed!
For all you with kids who have yet to start losing their teeth -- start saving money while you can. And then get excited because there are few things in life more pleasurable than seeing your child as happy as they are when they lose a tooth! :)

I am just hoping that on top of orthodontist bills we don't also have TMJ specialist bills! Pray this poor kid didn't inherit his mommy's mouth!
The tooth fairy that comes to our house only gives 25 cents, which is much cheaper than other friend's teeth that have fallen out. Andrew lost his first tooth and then his second tooth two months later but it took him 15 months after that to lose his two teeth that he lost at the same time. Yes, I agree, waiting for those teeth to come out is torturous but the joy once it is out is so exciting!
Hopefully the new tooth with slide gracefully into the hole left by the lost tooth. That would make mommy smile as much as Morgan.
Still waiting for that joy ... and unfortunately we probably have another year to wait. I remember being in second grade and having a pic of a tooth on the wall with my name on it. Mine was empty and others were filled with stars -- one for each tooth the kids had lost ... So at least she's lost a couple instead of none like my poor little first-grader who keeps asking when it will happen.
Just don't do what my old neighbor Megan's parents did -- they gave $1 for the first tooth, $2 for the second, etc. The problem was when #24, 25 and 26 came out in one week!!! Good thing she's an only child. I just told someone else that story this week, too. Hope it wasn't you!
And I hear you on the OUCH of orthodontists. We've already been told to start saving. With three kids thus far we're needing $15,000 ... and counting ... :S (Unfortunately that doesn't include ME getting braces since I need it. I probably have TMJ, too, but it doesn't hurt when my jaw cracks, so I'm leaving it alone! :)
For the rest of my novel ...
