My Girls, the Teenagers

I can't remember a time when Morgan didn't have a crush on one male or another. In Kindergarten she liked a boy and "flirted" with him constantly. The teacher finally had to tell her that you can't have boyfriends until you're much older. Morgan came home and told me what the teacher had said. Then she said, "Maybe I can be in love with him and just not tell anyone." As time has gone on, Morgan has always had at least one crush. Thankfully, she also seems to be able to play normally with boys as friends, but she always gets a bit giddy with the current crush. I find myself hoping that since she has entered into this time of life early, she'll also depart it early! Meanwhile...

Morgan has passed this silliness on to Brynne. One day over a year ago Brynne asked her good friend Zachary Brown if he wanted to marry her when they grew up. Zachary said he didn't want to. The next day, Brynne brainstormed a list of other male friends who might want to marry her. Brynne seems to take a more serious attitude with this relationship thing, as opposed to Morgan's flirtiness. You can believe we have many talks in our house about friendship--no matter the gender.

A couple of days ago, Brynne made the above "Valentine" for her friend Kade. Kade lives just down the street from us and goes to preschool with Brynne. Brynne has always loved making cards for all of her friends, but lately she has made a lot for Kade. She told me that Kade doesn't seem to be comfortable around her, so she's hoping the cards will win him over. Last week I talked to Kade's mom. I told her Brynne was hoping Kade would want to be her friend. Kade's mom told me that Kade doesn't like girls. My first thought was, "How can a kid that young decide to not like girls?" but then I remembered my sweet girls with their crushes and wondered instead how she had gotten Kade to fall on the 'not liking the other gender' side of the fence; because my girls seemed to have landed headfirst on the other side. :)
As I was typing this, I remembered I had some fun pictures of Morgan with her friend Tyler Brown. Cute couple, don't you think! :)

P.S. I'm really hoping anyone who reads this post realizes it's supposed to be cute and funny. Although I'm well aware that we are in for some interesting teenage years, I'm not really worried about my girls yet. We talk about appropriate behaviors and relationships, but then I just let the kids be kids! i.e. I didn't post this blog for any serious responses - (except maybe from Lee)! :)

Oh yes, I can empathize! When Christian was in Pre-K he brought home his yearbook and when he showed me his class page it went a little something like this... "That's my girlfriend, and that's my girlfriend, and that's..." you get the picture! I wish I could tell you it was gonna get better... not so sure! :)

It's genetic. Grampa Trout says he's liked girls for as long as he can remember and certainly from before he ever went to school. I think that's cute, but I don't know if it's comforting!

Yes, what a cute couple. You missed a few good pics, though. You know, like the day Tyler came home from the hospital ... and the 2 sets of professional pics they've had together ... and when Morgan came to visit us sans parents ... and when we posed in the tree in our backyard ... and ... well, you get the idea -- I have many, many more pics of them together. Too bad we've doomed them to NEVER get together.

So cute! They are definitely such a cute couple! Gracie has always loved boys, too. When she was about 18 months old she'd want Grandpa or any uncle or Daddy to hold her but wouldn't warm up to Grandma or her aunts. We have pictures of her laying her head on Grandpa's shoulder. She wanted to be held indefinitely if it was by one of the boys.

Yeah, that's great... Of course, love is always in the air when you're at Jalisco.
